The life of St John’s Church is shaped by the vision that motivates and inspires us, and by the values we seek to embrace. Let us tell you more about these things…
Our vision is that St John’s will be a Community of Hope and Restoration. As we grow together in Christ and make him better known people’s lives are transformed by the hope we have in Jesus and by the restoring work of his word and Spirit through his people. Our dream is to see God’s Kingdom come in our lives, and our communities. This is happening as individuals are being transformed by the love and power of God, as families and local communities are being supported by our various practical ministries and initiatives. We want St John’s to be characterised by the radical love and acceptance shown us by Jesus – we believe it is this that can bring hope and restoration to our lives and those around us. We believe God brings healing to our lives by his Holy Spirit and by his word and this is an important part of the restoration he has called his church to bring to this world.
To help us fulfil this vision, we seek to embrace five core values. We want these things to be the hallmarks of church life here at St John’s:
• Jesus at the Centre– putting Jesus first in all we do! We want Jesus to be Lord and to lead St John’s in the plans and purposes he has for us individually and as his people. We want to honour his presence among us as we gather in his name. So we give worship and prayer a high priority in our church. We are discovering that life makes most sense when we live for a purpose bigger than ourselves.
•Every member ministering– helping everyone find their place and play their part! Because we believe everyone counts in the purpose of God we believe helping everyone to find that place of service brings fulfilment and dignity to our lives. Every member is part of a small group where we can easily make friendships and connections and explore God’s gifts and call on our lives.
• Every member loving one another– sharing our lives together! We see church as ‘more than meetings’. At St John’s we love to eat and laugh and have fun together. We also recognise that as we share our lives that the sacrificial love that Jesus has demonstrated to us should characterise our support and care for one another.
• Every member growing– growing in faith and fulfilment! We have a passion to see everyone putting the amazing principles of the Bible into practice in everyday 21st century life. We value honesty and accountability as we apply God’s Word in our lives. We put a high priority on equipping our people to fulfil all that God has for them, and we aim to help every member grow in the fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
• Every member witnessing to the Gospel of Jesus – making a difference in our world! We have a passion to make a positive impact in our surrounding community. We aim to help every member make a difference amongst their family, friends and in their workplace..
